Create an API Key

An API key is like a secure password that allows other apps or websites to connect to your Zotero library. Creating an API key lets you safely share your library data with trusted tools—without giving out your Zotero login details. If your library is not set to public, an API key can be used to give REM access.

  1. Log in to your Zotero account.

  2. Click on your account name at the top right and then click on Settings

  1. Click on the Security tab on the left of the settings page.

  1. Scroll down to the Applications heading, then click on the Create new private key button

  1. Enter a Key Name so you can keep track of what this key is for. A good example would be REM Web Solutions.

  2. Make sure the options for Allow library access and Allow notes access are checked off.

  3. Check the Read Only option under Default Group Permissions then click on Save Key

  1. The next screen will display your newly created API key. Please copy and paste this key into your email to REM Support so that we can integrate with your Zotero library.
